Hvar Offers Sun, Sea and Culture

Along the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia lies the island of Hvar, which is said to get the most sun of any spot on this beautiful part of the country. It offers activities for everyone, is nice to visit year round, and has plenty of apartments, homes and villas for purchase or rent.

The main towns on the island are Hvar Town, Stari Grad Brboska, Jelsa and Sucaraj, with the island’s namesake village being the main focus of activity. The main form of transport to the island is the ferry, which comes in to Hvar Town from Split. The island has vineyards, fields of lavender, plenty of good restaurants – especially if you like seafood – and many activities. The pinnacle of the island is Sv. Nikola, from which you can experience some spectacular views of the Adriatic Sea. There is a nice hike up to the top of the peak, and the beaches, woods and forests offer outdoor lovers many hours of activity

Hvlar offers a number of cultural and historical sites, including the Fortezza Spanjola overlooking the town. Stari Grad is a nice old village with a maze of streets, and St. Stephen’s Cathedral is a popular place to visit as well. Just off Hvar island are the Pakleni Islands, a small archipelago in front of the Hvar port, where you can enjoy the sun and the sea in one of the many solitary, wooded coves.

For a place to stay or purchase, the town of Hvar has some new apartments as well as many older villas and homes. Stari Grad also has some new apartments, and there are some building lots on the island as well. There are also plenty of older homes that need a bit of fixing up for those who want to put in a little effort. Whatever you are looking for, this peaceful island offers a nice retreat for families and individuals.
